Futuregen Announcement Illinois Wins. The Illinois community of Mattoon has been chosen as the site of the FutureGen coal plant. It beat out three other cities that were involved in the selection process.
The Futuregen Annoucement came tuesday morning. The Futuregen coal plant is supposed to be the next generation power source that doesnt emit pollution into the air. The power plant is expected to cost around $1.8 billion dollars and will provide a huge boost to the economy of Mattoon.
The Futuregen announcement has stirred up a big following. The price tag is nearly double what was projected when the project was announced 8 years ago and the four possible cities were all fighting to be selected as its new home.
