Kim Amidon Fired

Kim Amidon Fired?  The co-host of the Mark and Kim Show that airs on Kost 103.5 is leaving the show. Apparently owner of the radio show, Clear Channel, laid off Kim Amidon.  As a result the long time radio show is going to be no longer.

With Kim Amidon Fired the show is now just going to be called the morning show with Mark Wallengren.  The Mark and Kim show had been on the air since February 3 1986 and it came to a sad end yesterday.  That is 22 years of radio.  Mark Wallengren found out that Kim Amidon was let go around 10 o’clock yesterday.

It is not clear what Kim Amidon is going to do now.  She might be able to find work somewhere else, but it will probably be hard for her to start over.  One thing we do know is that she will not be working for Clear Channel any more.  If we hear any more breaking news regarding this story we will provide an update.

I can’t believe Clear Channel fired Kim. Cutting the budget for a powerhouse program makes no business sence at all. Kim has been such a vital part of the morning program. I have XM radio so who needs Clear Channel, certainly not me.

Who is the “Pin Head” at Clear Channel who fired Kim. The Mark and Kim Show have been my staple for more years than I can remember. All one has to do is view her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to realize what a vital part of LA radio she is. Clear channel sponsors are going to to see me stay away from their products.

    Why?
We all know Kim is gone but we don’t know why.
I wonder if Kim really knows why..or Mark?
I have been listening to those two since little Dylen was a baby. I remember Mrk taped him and played it on the radio and had his wife translate it for us listeners….Kim laughed with much love.
I am sure that Mark has been told to not talk about Kim or the situation any more….Rodrigo .Is he becoming Mrk’s right hand man? I met him and he is great…but he is not Kim…nor are the two young interns. I will listen for a while longer..see what happens..wondering how Mark really is?
Kim gets fired right before Christmas….pretty cold and harsh…unbelievable…I ;ll remember this as I see their star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood…What in the world happened?
I sure would like to communicate with Kim. How is she really doing? Please let us know!

What idiot fired Kim from the Mark and Kim show. I’ve been listening to the Mark and Kim show for as long as I can remember. Someone surely didn’t have their head on straight when they fired Kim. What are they thinking by ruining a wonderful duo. I wish Kim all the best and hopefully she will latch onto to something even bigger and better than an ungrateful KOST. I like Mark and will continue to listen for a while and see what happens but really prefer listening to MARK AND KIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never called or wrote to a radio station or television station. However, the firing of Kim really shocked me. The radio has beautiful Christmas music and is trying to spread the feeling of love and joy and they fire someone who has worked for them for twenty-five years. That is cold and heartless! Your hypocritical action left a sour taste in my mouth for your station. I really enjoyed the balance between Mark and Kim. It was fun listening to them and how they spoke about their families and joked together. Now when I listen to you I feel an intense sadness and I will be changing stations. Please reconsider your decision and have Kim come back with Mark!

I have listened to Mark and Kim since Lohman and Barkley broke up. I am sickened by such a stupid move on the part of a management team that does not know it’s customer base too well.

Why let Kim go? Is it a gender thing? Is upper management afraid of a woman who can think? Is it just financial? How did management select who got to go - draw straws? Mark is good but I don’t think he has the strength to be a single.

I will not be listening to KOST any more, guess my job for the next couple of weeks is finding a new morning show. That’s the pits.

Kim - where ever you are “You go girl”.

Sure hope to hear Kim on the radio soon - in a bigger and better station!

Shame, shame! What about us, who have supported your station and have listened to it because of Mark and Kim? I’m in agreement with CWMcClure;NO MORE KOST on my “favorite” list. Bye-bye KOST!

It appears Clear Channel has not received enough oxygen to their brain. Kim made the morning show what it was for many of us. I like Mark but with the loss of Kim I am now going to listen to Movin’ 93.9 A morning show needs two or more personalities to compete with other stations.

Kim wherever you are, let us know what you are up to. We miss you!

    Sincerely,
    Vic

I kept wondering what happend to Kim. And now Mark’s on vacation. Finally looked it up today and found out Kim was fired…amazing! The only reason I listened on the way to work was to hear Mark & Kim talk. Now it’s just CDs for me….no commercials anyway!!

I am flabbergasted that KOST fired Kim Amidon. Even Mark sounds like he’s doing his show halfheartedly. I am no longer a KOST listener. This was one boneheaded move, and as a 20+ year marketing person, it even baffles me moreso. Why would a Program Director or Station Manager fire 1/2 of its most lucrative long-lasting team? It’s truly mindboggling. I don’t know what KOST has to do (besides grovel) to get her back, but what I would do first, if I was the head of Clear Channel, is fire everyone involved in this decision, THEN offer Kim double her previous salary, plus an apology, to get her back. Otherwise the duo should find another station entirely.

I still can’t believe that Kim is gone from KOST. I realize that Mark is looking out for himself and family but I can’t believe he agreed to stay after they let her go. The mornings are just not the same anymore without her. They should have left together in unison and we all would have followed them to a new station. Mark is great but he just doesn’t have it to go alone without her.

I worked with Kim in 1983-4 @KGFJ/KUTE radio. Kim is a wonderful person, compassionate, caring and just down to earth REAL in a business that sometimes operates in the “gray” of things. Believe me, she will land on her feet! Sometimes radio is governed by “personalities” and I don’t mean “air personalities”…and most assuredly it is governed sometimes by “couch practices”. Kim will be an asset where ever she goes. “Ole” jocks never die…they just end up somewhere else with the competition. Kim…you go girl!! Will be prayin’ for you, God bless you sweety…I believe in you. Call Hal Kim!! He always loved ya!!

  15. julie prado on January 13th, 2008 1:30 pm

I didn’t think this decision would last! I miss Kim!!

  16. Diana on January 14th, 2008 8:08 am

That’s a wonderful idea!! Mark and Kim should find another station to work together…. It surely isn’t the same without Kim… I stopped listening for a while… because I wasn’t ready for the Christmas music that early…. now I don’t want to listen either…. because it is not the same without Kim!!

  17. MJ on January 19th, 2008 10:20 pm

I was her partner for 4 years- She hated her job. She hated Mark. She hated going every day. It was a blessing. let is go

Have listened to Kost Mark&Kim for over twenty years. It is not the same now. The person who replaced Mark when he was off sick, was absolutely horrible, and this is good for radio, not. Sure there was some discrimination going on here. Will not be listening any longer. These higher up, just look to line their pockets and have no consideration for the listeners, afterall the listeners are the ones who should count. They need to get a life….Get Kim back before someone else gets her.

  19. Mark Wallengren on January 29th, 2008 8:32 pm

Hi it’s Mark. Wow! You all blow me away!!! I’ve been following much of what has been written and I feel compelled to comment.

I’ve talked with Kim several times about putting another show together and she told me she doesn’t want to work in radio again. I hope that’s not true. She has said that she’ll listen to any offers.

Anyone know about playing office politics? Well for a long time Kim has expressed on the air and in the halls that she wanted to do something else. I think maybe one too many times. I do know that the company had to make painful financial decisions that affected many here at our station both on and off the air. I guess, knowing Kim’s feelings, they felt the time was right and opted not to renew her contract in 2008. Greg Ashlock told me he doesn’t want anyone to ‘need’ to work here he wants people that ‘want’ to work here. Nuff said? She did receive severance pay that insures that she won’t have to work for years if she chooses. Kim wants to become a writer. She has an agent and is pursuing that field.

I have told Kim that many people want to catch up with her. Her daughter Bevy is supposed to be putting up a Myspace.com page for her. When that happens I will post that address on my blog! If I can’t convince Kim then I’m going to have to go out there and find that perfect partner again.

Yeah, I feel like I got blind sided with a baseball bat but you know what? When I got hired in 1985 I didn’t think I’d last six months.

It was an amazing 22 years and I will always have wonderful memories of the people we’ve met and fantastic things we were able to do while on the air. It’s always been such a blessing to work here and if at some point I am asked to leave I will be forever grateful for the time I was allowed be on the air and reach out to wonderful people like you.

In the meantime I hope you’ll continue to listen. I’m planning on a fantastic future here at Coast 103!

I hope that Koast moves to a new location in Long Beach California or in Torrance California I live in Torrance California and have Kim Amidon reunite with Mark Wallengren and call it the Mark and Kim the good morning show from 6-12 p.m.Mon. - Fri.and have all the listeners at the new Kost cafe with Kim’s and Mark’s children with musicians James Blunt, Dr, Phil, Dr. Demento and take all the listeners to different themeparks during the summer as well as during the winter with Kim’s and Mark’s children as well as all the listeners in the studio for lunch and a guided tour of the studio

  21. Heidi on April 16th, 2008 4:15 pm

Every morning driving to work I heard Kim’s voice and I enjoyed the drive to work. It is not the same anymore without Kim. I can’t believe that she got fired because she demanded equal pay. Mark is paid more than Kim becuase he is a man? I think this is outrageous and an insult to all the women out there that are working as hard as men are! I won’t be listening to Coast 103!!!
