John Thain Merrill Lynch CEO? That is what news reports are flashing across the country. John Thain has apparently accepted the job as the new CEO of Merrill Lynch.
John Thain is currently the NYSE Euronext CEO. The public announcement is expected to come as earlier as Wednesday afternoon. It seems to be good news for investors as Merrill Lynch stock soared in trading rising almost 6%.
John Thain will replace Stanley O’neal who resigned last month after the company took it’s largest hit ever writing down $8 billion on subprime loan investments. The hiring of John Thain is a surprise to some people as many thought that Laurence Fink, the CEO of BlackRock, was the top candidate for the job. We will continue to follow this story and provide any breaking news updates regarding the official announcement.
