Stata Center
Filed Under Education, U.S. News |
The Stata Center is one the most recognized and celebrated pieces of architecture to be built in many years. The building was built on MIT’s campus and is home to the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems, Department of Philosophy, and the department of Linguistics. It is approximately 430,000 square feet in size. That is one humungous building.
MIT has just filed a lawsuit against the architect that designed the building, Frank Gehry. The lawsuit claims that because of the design flaws the building suffered from leaks, cracks, mold, and the back up of drainage. The law suit stats the MIT had to hire another firm to repair the damage which cost them an extra $1.5 million.
Stata Center is an interesting build with very different architecture. I suppose that if you are designing something the appeals to the eye it might be easy to forget about the functionality side of things. It will be interesting to see how the law suite works it self out and if MIT is awarded any money or if Frank Gehry decides to settle the case. We will provide you with any breaking news updates regarding the case.
