The Rialto Bridge has had its share of trouble.  It has collapsed three different times in its lifetime before they decided to build the bridge out of stone.  It was decided to make the switch to stone in 1503.  Although it was proposed to be built in 1503 it actually wasn’t finished until many years later in 1591.

Some critics of the Rialto Bridge believed that the bridge would not last.  It has defied all odds and still stands today.  It has become one of the most well known images from the city holds its place in history.  The bridge has a covering of the top and on the inside it houses many shops that line the sides of the bridge.  If you ever go to Venice it is definitely something you will want to see.
