Ordinal Numbers are defined as numbers that indicate the order or position of something in a group or set.  Ordinal by it self is defined as the numbers which show order in a series. 

An example of Ordinal Numbers would to show position such as first, second, third, fourth etc… in a group.  An example of Ordinal would be first, second, third, fourth etc… in a series. 

Ordinal numbers can get you involved in some pretty complicated mathematics if you let it or you can try and read between the lines and figure out what it is really saying.
