Filed Under Bizarre News, Cities, Local News |
Paris Catacombs are a big network of underground tunnels located in Paris, France. The tunnels are a well known burial place for bodies exhumed in the 18th century. These bodies were exhumed from overcrowded graveyards in Paris.
Paris Catacombs as some call them does have many different names. Some of these include “the catacombs”, “les carrieres de Paris,” and “the quarries of Paris.” There is only a very small portion of the Paris Catacombs that are open to the public. The size of the Catacombs is unbelievable; the tunnel system is believed to span some 185 miles in length.
Paris Catacombs is considered one of the world’s spookiest places. People are drawn to it because of its mysterious nature. It is more well known for the strange voices heard and the reported sightings of ghosts than it is for the bodies it holds. It has its own special police that monitor the tunnels as people frequently enter the tunnels unofficially. Many parts of the tunnel are considered unsafe and some parts even have flooding. There are people who like to frequent the tunnels and they are even given a special name called “cataphiles.” This is definitely a place I do not want to visit as I don’t care for scary places much, but I do see how people could be drawn to its mysterious nature. We will update you with any breaking news regarding the Paris Catacombs
