Cubist Fernand Leger Featured At Museum Of Modern Art, Frist Center

Cubist Fernand Leger was a sculptor, filmmaker, and painter born in 1881.  Cubist Fernand is known for the masterpiece paintings he painted.  He has been featured in many major museums and most recently his work is being featured in the Experimental Museum Of Modern Art that will be showing at the Frist Center.  The Frist Center is located in Nashville Tennessee and is a center for the visual arts.  You can find more information out about the center in the news

Cubist Fernand Leger had the full name Joseph Fernand Henri Leger.  He was born in the Argentan, Orne, Basse-Normandie.  Cubist Fernand Leger grew up riasing cattle with his father before he studied architecture as an apprentice.  He soon after moved to Paris, France where he became an architectural draftsman.  After a brief stint in the military he then went to school to study art.  By the age of 25 he had started to focus his life on painting.  In 1909 he created a painting known as “Nudes of the Forest,” which was his first painting that showed the Cubism form.  In 1910 he joined up with some other artists to create their own movement that was based off of Cubism

Cubist Fernand Leger spent the rest of his life following different movements with his painting skills.  He also got into sculpting and filmmaking during his career.  Fernand Leger became very interested in modern paiting as he called it in 1945.  He provided his knowledge to others as he taught them and was later called the progenitor of Pop Art.  Cubist Fernand Leger died in 1955 but he legacy will live on.  In 1952 two murals were installed in the United Nations headquarters in New York and in 1960 Musee Fernand Leger was opened in Biot, Alpes-Maritimes, France

Cubist Fernand Leger is one of the greats of his time.  Sculptures that he created are currently selling for over $8 million a piece.  His painting called the “La femme en rouge et vert” sold for a whopping $22,407,500 in 2003.  His legacy will long be remembered for the innovative painting he created.
