Columbus Marathon 2007 is taking place today with an estimated 10,000 racers expected to participate. The race will feature walkers, wheelchair racers, and runners. For those that are walking they will begin the race at 7 a.m. and those that are running will begin the race at 8 a.m. It is the 28th annual running of the race.
The Columbus Marathon 2007 is a 26.2 mile race that begins in Downtown Columbus and winds through many areas of the city. The roads that the race course is setup on will be closed down for the event. Of the 10,000 expected participants about 4,800 of them are expected to complete the full 26.2 miles and another 5,200 are expected to complete the 13.1 miles they call the half marathon.
The Columbus Marathon 2007 is a very difficult course as most runners will hit the “wall” as runner’s call it around the campus area. The wall is the point when a runners body start to break down and it feels as if they cannot go any further. It will be interesting to see of the 10,000 that start the race how many finish. If you recall the Chicago Marathon had a lot of controversy over the heat and one contestant even died. I say good luck to all participants. We will provide a news update after the race has finished.
