What Is Deep Vein Thrombosis

What is Deep Vein Thrombosis?  Deep Vein Thrombosis occurs in deeps veins generally in your legs.  It will generally occur in your leg muscles such as your thigh muscle or calf muscle.  It is when a blood clot forms in one of these deep veins and blocks blood flow through the vein.  It can block the blood flow completely or just partially depending on the severity of it.  What happens when a blood clot forms?  Well, it can cause severe swelling in your legs or affected areas and well as cause pain in your legs.  This is not good because these blood clots that form can break free and when that happens there is no telling where it will go.  If it travels to your heart or lungs it is called an embolism and if it is not caught quickly, can end your life in a very short period of time.
