La Jolla California Landslide Damages Homes

The La Jolla California landslide has caused damages to some homes. A landslide occurred in the community of La Jolla, California on Wednesday, October 3. The incident was reported to be quite unpreventable and had been ensuing since June of 2007 unknowingly.
Two weeks prior to La Jolla California landslide, many warnings had been placed that the ground along the Soledad Mountain Road was moving. This warning should have been better prepared for and residents should have taken measures to ensure there safety and to help protect their homes from being damaged or destroyed.
There were 111 homes evacuated along the hillside. Luckily, the landslide took place at a time of day that most of the homeowners were gone to work. There were no injuries reported. Residents of 75 of the homes were able to return early Thursday morning. There were many other homes though that were damaged and owners were not able to return. There was one home that was destroyed beyond repair.
This hillside probably shouldn’t have been built on to begin with because of the looseness of the earth; it was destined to happen at some point. Mayor Jerry Sanders immediately sought help directly after the landslide from the federal government as well as the state of California, to restore the community to normal as fast as possible.
